RICHMOND, Ind. – Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Dickman and sophomore opposite Abbey Zanatta each posted double-digit kill totals to lead Earlham College to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-19) victory over Capital University, in a non-conference volleyball matchup on Tuesday evening at Druley Performance Gym.
Dickman tallied 12 kills - six in set 2 alone - on 34 attacks with four errors for a .235 hitting percentage, while Zanatta charted 11 terminations on 26 swings and hit for a .308 clip. Five of Zanatta's kills came in the first set.
The two pin hitters accounted for over half of Earlham's 42 kills, with Caroline Mulvihill and Julia Stewart adding eight and six kills respectively. Senior setter Lauren Jackson charted 35 assists while running a Quaker attack that hit .290 for the match.
The Quakers tallied nine service aces, led by Stewart and Sydney Ameluxen with three each. Stewart turned up 14 digs for Earlham while Ameluxen had 13.
Capital was held to a .133 hitting percentage for the match, led by Delanie Nahikian with eight kills and Miranda Jordan with seven. The Crusaders tallied eight service aces in the match, three of which came off the serve of Jessica Gavlak.
Earlham is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when it travels to Wilmington College to face the Ohio Quakers. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
