Women's Volleyball Welcomes New Assistant Coach

RICHMOND, Indiana - Earlham Athletics welcomes Fatoumata "Fatima" Dacosta as Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach. 

Dacosta's volleyball background began as an athlete where she played collegiately for both Wiley College (NAIA), and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). While at Wiley College, Dacosta was named tothe All-Red River Athletic Conference First Team twice. In her freshman year, she was named to Red River Athletic Conference All-Tournament (2013). Her sophomore year, Dacosta earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors. 

After transfering to UTRGV, Dacosta assisted the team in winning a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championship, and making its first NCAA tournament appearance (2016). During that same year, she earned 609 digs, placing her 19th among NCAA statistical leaders. Dacosta finished her career receiving WAC All-Academic honors.  

Throughout her collegiate career, Dacosta represented her home of Senegal globally, competing in both indoor and outdoor events on three separate occasions.  

Dacosta began her coaching stint in 2017 as a graduate-assistant coach at Salem University, where she helped the team finish 9-27. 

Head Coach Lauren Horton said, "Fatima comes from a strong, hard-working background and I think that's something the girls will really appreciate. She's also played at some of the highest levels. She was determined to become excellent at the craft, which will make her an even better coach and elevate us to a higher level."
