Volleyball Drops HCAC Match at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College hit a .259 attack percentage in the Yellow Jackets' 30-28, 25-19, 25-11 victory over the Earlham College volleyball team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Wednesday evening.

The Quakers fought off five set points in the first set, but could not win consecutive points as an attack error from freshman Angelica Carpio gave the Yellow Jackets as 30-28 set one victory.

Earlham hung with Defiance in set two until, at 20-19, the Yellow Jackets won three consecutive points off of two Quaker attack errors. After a service error, an Emma Seitz kill sealed the set for Defiance. The Yellow Jackets continued that momentum winning set three going away.

Sophomore Ashleigh Burton led all front row players with 16 kills. Fellow sophomore Skylar Muckway added nine kills. For Defiance, Seitz and Marissa Windau finished with double-digit kills.

Freshman setter Lauren Jackson assisted on 30 of the Quakers' 37 kills while fellow freshman Sydney Ameluxen had a team-high 13 digs.

The Quakers will host Manchester University and Boyce College on Saturday to finish their 2016 season.
