RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team welcomes Hanover College to Schuckman Court for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match on Wednesday. First serve is planned to start at 7:30 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Hanover. The Quakers enter the match trying to snap a losing streak of six matches. The Quakers, who fell to Mount St. Joseph University 3-2 on Saturday, not been swept in three matches. The Panthers are 15-7 overall and 4-0 in HCAC play after winning two matches at Centre College this past weekend.
The Coaches: Lauren Crump enters her third year at Earlham along with her second year as head coach. The IU-East alumnae was a four-year starting setter for the Red Wolves and a three-time All-American. She holds the distinction of being the NAIA's all-time assists leader for the rally-scoring era. Peter Preocanin has led Hanover's volleyball program for the past 13 seasons.
The Players: Sophomores Ashleigh Burton and Skylar Muckway continue to be Earlham's go-to threats on offense. Both average over 2.5 kills per set and have combined for over 56 percent of the Quakers' offense. Burton led all attackers with 22 kills in the Quakers' 3-2 loss to MSJ on Saturday. Freshman setter Lauren Jackson engineers the Earlham offense to the tune of 8.56 assists per set while sophomore libero Megan Hedinger leads the back row averaging five digs per set and also turned in career-high 36 digs against MSJ. . For Hanover, Courtney Crawford, who sits second in the HCAC, leads the defense with 18 solo blocks while Kristen Goben and Kelsey Brandvik have over 200 kills.
Sister Connection: Hanover sophomore setter Abby Crump is the younger sister Earlham head coach Lauren Crump.
In Search of a Conference Win: Earlham has not won an HCAC contest since joining the conference prior to the 2010 season. The Quakers have gotten to a fifth set on three occasions – 2010 at Manchester University, 2011 at Franklin, 2014 at Franklin, and 2016 vs. Mount St. Joseph.
