LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Earlham College volleyball team won a set against Transylvania University on Wednesday, but the Pioneers bested the Quakers in four sets, winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match 25-15, 19-25, 25-14, 25-20.
After dropping the first set and being held to a negative hitting percentage, Earlham responded by hitting a blistering .370 clip in the second set. The Quakers tallied 12 kills compared to just two attack errors.
The Pioneer defense stiffened in the final two sets, holding Earlham to under a .120 attack percentage the final two sets. Transylvania hit between .220 and .260 in each of the four sets.
Sophomores Skylar Muckway and Ashleigh Burton finished with 15 and 12 kills respectively, combining for 71 percent of the Quakers' kills. Freshman setter Lauren Jackson dished out 36 assists while sophomore libero Megan Hedinger had a match-high 23 digs.
A trio of Pioneers, Jordan Horne, Shelby Catlett, and Hannah Graff, all finished in double digits in kills.
The Quakers will continue HCAC play on Saturday at home against Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
