RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team heads to Franklin College for a tri-match with the host Grizzlies and Fontbonne University on Saturday. The Quakers will face Franklin in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match at 11 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. match with the Griffins.
The Teams: Earlham, Franklin, and Fontbonne. The Quakers are 4-15 overall after dropping the HCAC opener to Bluffton University 3-0 on Wednesday. The Grizzlies are 9-7 and also dropped their HCAC open 3-1 to Manchester University. The Griffins are 4-8, but won their last match over Lincoln Christian.
The Coaches: Lauren Crump enters her third year at Earlham along with her second year as head coach. The IU-East alumnae was a four-year starting setter for the Red Wolves and a three-time All-American. She holds the distinction of being the NAIA's all-time assists leader for the rally-scoring era. Mary Johnston is in her seventh season on Franklin's sideline while Meredith Heater has coached Fontbonne since 2012.
The Players: The sophomore duo of Ashleigh Burton and Skylar Muckway combines for over six kills per set to lead the Quakers' offensively. Freshman setter Lauren Jackson averages over eight assists per set while sophomore libero Megan Hedinger leads Earlham's back row with 4.80 digs per set. Brooke Harvey and Amanda Lelivelt are the two Grizzlies who average over two kills pet set while Kersten McDonough averages 3.52 kills per set for Fontbonne.
In Search of a Conference Win: Earlham has not won an HCAC match since joining the conference prior to the 2010 season.
