Volleyball Hosting Bluffton in HCAC Opener on Wednesday

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team hosts defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) champion Bluffton University for a 7 p.m. contest at Schuckman Court on Wednesday.

The Teams: Earlham and Bluffton. The Quakers stands at 4-14 after a 1-3 record at the Illinois College Tournament last weekend. Bluffton enters the match at 11-7 after losing a 2-2 record at the HCAC-OAC Crossover last weekend.

The Coaches: Lauren Crump enters her third year at Earlham along with her second year as head coach. The IU-East alumnae was a four-year starting setter for the Red Wolves and a three-time All-American. She holds the distinction of being the NAIA's all-time assists leader for the rally-scoring era. Steve Yarnell is in his 12th season leading the Bluffton volleyball program.  

The Players: Sophomore Ashleigh Burton leads Earlham in kills with 225, attack percentage at .238, and blocks at 25. Fellow sophomores Skylar Muckway and Denisha Mataia have 125 and 83 kills on the season respectively. Freshman setter Lauren Jackson has 502 assists averaging 8.37 assist per set. Sophomore Megan Hedinger leads Earlham's back row with 293 digs, averaging 4.80 digs per set. For Bluffton, Erin Weisgarber leads the Beavers with 581 assists for an average of 9.37 assists per set. Lauren Weisgarber and MacKenzie McFarlin have each tallied over 180 kills.

In Search of a Conference Win: Earlham has not won an HCAC match since joining the conference prior to the 2010 season.

Maroon Out: Fans attending the match are asked to wear maroon to support the Quakers!

Up Next: Earlham travels to Franklin College for a tri-match hosted by the Grizzlies on Saturday. The Quakers will face Franklin at 11 a.m. followed by Fontbonne University at 1 p.m.
