RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team travels to the Illinois College Tournament in Jacksonville, Ill., to face four teams from the state of Illinois this weekend.
Tournament Schedule: The Quakers will face Principia College and Augustana College on Friday evening before facing Monmouth College and the host Illinois College on Saturday.
The Teams: Earlham, Principia, Augustana, Monmouth, and Illinois College. The Quakers enter the weekend at 3-11 after dropping the Crosstown Battle to Indiana University East on Wednesday. The Panthers are 5-4 and have two their last two matches 3-0. The Vikings are 9-4 this season, but lost their Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) opener 3-1 to Carthage College on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots are 4-6 and recently edged Iowa Wesleyan on the road on Tuesday. The host Lady Blues evened their record to 6-6 after a sweep of Blackburn College on Wednesday.
The Coaches: Lauren Crump enters her third year at Earlham along with her second year as head coach. The IU-East alumnae was a four-year starting setter for the Red Wolves and a three-time All-American. She holds the distinction of being the NAIA's all-time assists leader for the rally-scoring era. Mary Ann Sprague is the head coach at Principia while Kelly Bethke is in her third season leading Augustana. Mary Shimmin, class of 1997, leads the Monmouth volleyball program while Kristy Duncan is in her third season leading Illinois College.
The Players: Sophomores Ashleigh Burton and Skylar Muckway each average over two kills per set for the Quakers' offense. Burton leads the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) in kills per set at 3.79. Freshman setter Lauren Jackson averages over eight assists per set while Hedinger has a team-high 230 digs this season. Devon Marunde leads the Panthers offense at 8.90 assists per set while Taryn Van VanEarWage leads the Vikings' front row with 133 kills. Laura Dulee quarterbacks the Fighting Scots offense as she has dished out 231 assists this season. Lisa Lowry has tallied 158 kills to lead the host's offense.
2015 Illinois College Tournament: Earlham finished with a 2-2 record defeating Monmouth and Robert Morris-Springfield and falling to Concordia University Chicago and Olivet College.
