RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team welcomes Wilmington College to the Druley Performance Gymnasium and Schuckman Court for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
The Teams: Earlham and Wilmington. Earlham stands at 2-6 after a 1-2 weekend at the Quaker Classic. Earlham ended the tournament with a thrilling five-set win over Concordia University Chicago. Wilmington enters the match at 0-6 after finishing the Mount St. Joseph Tournament 0-3.
The Coaches: Lauren Crump enters her third year at Earlham along with her second year as head coach. The IU-East alumnae was a four-year starting setter for the Red Wolves and a three-time All-American. She holds the distinction of being the NAIA's all-time assists leader for the rally-scoring era. Timothy O'Brian is also in his second year as head coach of Wilmington.
The Players: Sophomore Ashleigh Burton leads Earlham in kills with 92, attack percentage at .194, and blocks at 16. Fellow sophomores Skylar Muckway and Denisha Mataia have 50 and 43 kills on the season respectively. Freshman setter Lauren Jackson averages 7.86 assists per set while sophomore Megan Hedinger leads Earlham's back row with 5.41 digs per set. Amber Rox, Kara Short, and Kennedy Harshaw each overage over one kill per set for Wilmington while Alyssa McKenzie has dished out 116 assists this year.
Quaker Bowl: Both Earlham and Wilmington have the Quakers as nicknames. Earlham was called the Hustlin' Quakers while Wilmington was referred to as the Fightin' Quakers.
Looking for Revenge: Earlham is 6-1 against Wilmington in the last three seasons including a 3-0 victory at home and a 3-1 win on the road in 2015.
