COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Earlham College volleyball team finished the Capital-Otterbein Tournament with a pair of 3-0 losses to Case Western Reserve University (25-9, 25-18, 25-9) and Otterbein University (25-23, 25-9, 25-23) on Saturday.
In the loss to Case Western Reserve, sophomores Naomi Ongjanco and Denisha Mataia finished with three kills each. Freshman Makaylea Alberts dished out eight assists and recorded eight digs. Sophomore Megan Hedinger added 15 digs while fellow sophomore Ashleigh Burton added two four blocks and four digs.
The Spartans hit .260 as a team and were led by Marian Barton with eight kills and a .333 attack percentage.
In the loss to Otterbein, Burton hit a .400 clip to go with 12 kills and six digs. Freshman Angelica Carpio hit .429 with seven kills on 14 attack attempts and just one error. Fresham Lauren Jackson dished out 21 assists and prevented seven Cardinal kills with digs while Hedinger turned in a second 15-dig performance.
The Quakers return to action against Ohio Christian University for the home-opener on Tuesday, Sept. 6. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m
