Volleyball Announces 2016 Recruiting Class

RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College head volleyball coach Lauren Crump has announced her team's recruiting class for the 2016 season that begins on Sept. 2. Five freshman will be joining a program which finished with its highest win total since 2012.

"This freshman class is traveling from near and far to attend Earlham College and be a part of our program," Crump said. "These young ladies are academically strong, competitive on the court, and will enhance our roster for many reasons. This class is enthusiastic, focused, and will help take us to the next level."

The members of the incoming freshman class are listed below in alphabetical order:

Makaylea Alberts
Setter from Alexandra, Ind.

A graduate of Alexandria Monroe High School, Alberts received seven varsity letters including four in softball and three in volleyball. A three-year captain on the volleyball court, she was garnered Honorable Mention All-State honors as a senior and holds the school record for career assists.

A 2015-16 Madison County Athlete of Character, Alberts graduated with honors and plans to major in mathematics.

Sydney Ameluxen
Defensive Specialist from Wichita Falls, Texas

A Wichita Falls High School alumnae, Ameluxen played varsity volleyball as well as club volleyball for five season. A team captain as a senior, she broke Wichita Fall's record for digs in a season with 576. Ameluxen was a dance team captain, co-captain of the cheerleading team, and a member of MU Alpha Theta.

Also a member of the National Honor Society, she plans to major in history.

Angelica Carpio
Right Side/Outside Hitter from Tucson, Ariz.

A Tucson High School alumnae, Carpio was a three-year varsity player and helped her team qualify for the state tournament each of these years. Tucson made a state semifinal appearance in 2013.

A two-time All-Southern Arizona Honorable Mention honoree, Carpio also garnered spots on the AllSportsArizona.com All-Southern and Division III All-Stars Third Teams.

Carpio, who is a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in the top 10 percent of her class, plans to major in politics.

Vanessa Duran
Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist from Oceanside, Calif.

A Vista High School graduate, Duran earned one varsity letter for volleyball. She was involved in several extracurricular activities such as streel drum ensemble, interact club, and starting Link Crew Leadership.

Duran was a member of the honor roll all four years and got selected as Vista's Rising Star in March of 2016. She plans to major in pre-medicine.

Lauren Jackson
Setter from Tonganoxie, Kansas

A Tonganoxie High School graduate, Jackson played volleyball all four years. She earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in 2014 and 1st All-Kaw Valley League recognition in 2015. As a senior, Jackson was a Second Team All-State Tournament Team member and earned Lawrence Journal World All-Area recognition.

Ranking first in her graduating class, Jackson plans to pursue degrees in Spanish and pre-medicine.

Earlham opens its season at the Capital Invitational on Sept. 2-3.
