RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's tennis team continues Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play when the Quakers host Transylvania University for a 4:30 p.m. match on Wednesday.
The Teams: Earlham and Transylvania. The Quakers are 0-9 this season including 0-2 in HCAC play after falling to Indiana Tech 9-0 on Monday. The Pioneers are 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the HCAC after 7-2 wins over Mount St. Joseph University and Franklin College.
The Coaches: Earlham is under the direction of first-year head coach Shawn Hyden. A graduate of the University of Mount Union, Hyden comes to Earlham from Arcadia University (Pa.) where he spent the last three years as head men's and women's tennis coach. At Arcadia, Hyden led the men's team to a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament Championship match. Kevin Calhoun enters his first season as head women's tennis coach at Transylvania.
The Players: Sophomores Chloe Culler (fourth singles at Adrian) and Robyn Thomas (fifth singles vs. Berea and sixth singles vs. Indiana Tech) have each won singles flights for the Quakers this season. Lilian Williams has played both first singles and first doubles for the Pioneers.
Recent History: Earlham has not beaten Transylvania since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010-11 academic year.
