RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's tennis team hosts Manchester University in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match on Sunday at noon. The match was originally scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The Teams: Earlham and Manchester. The Quakers are 0-7 on the season and 0-1 in HCAC play after falling at defending champion Hanover College on Wednesday. The Spartans are 2-1 and opened conference play with a 5-4 victory over Anderson University.
The Coaches: Earlham is under the direction of first-year head coach Shawn Hyden. A graduate of the University of Mount Union, Hyden comes to Earlham from Arcadia University (Pa.) where he spent the last three years as head men's and women's tennis coach. At Arcadia, Hyden led the men's team to a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament Championship match. Eric Christiansen is in his 10th season leading the Manchester tennis programs.
The Players: Sophomores Chloe Culler (fourth singles at Adrian) and Robyn Thomas (fifth singles vs. Berea) have each won singles flights for the Quakers this season. Erin Cordill and Miriam Aly have played first and second singles respectively for the Spartans this season. Both earned wins in Manchester's conference-opening win.
