RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's tennis team opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Wednesday when the Quakers travel to defending champion Hanover College for a 4:30 p.m. match.
The Teams: Earlham and Hanover. The Quakers are 0-6 on the year after falling to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAA) foes Trine University and Adrian College last weekend. The Panthers are 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference competition.
The Coaches: Earlham is under the direction of first-year head coach Shawn Hyden. A graduate of the University of Mount Union, Hyden comes to Earlham from Arcadia University (Pa.) where he spent the last three years as head men's and women's tennis coach. At Arcadia, Hyden led the men's team to a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament Championship match. Ryan Miller has been the Hanover tennis coach since 2014.
The Players: Sophomores Chloe Culler (fourth singles at Adrian) and Robyn Thomas (fifth singles vs. Berea) have each won singles flights for the Quakers this season. A trio of Panthers – Cami Jones, Lizzy Katzenberger, and Susan Winternheimer – each have four singles victories.
Conference Winning Streak: Hanover has won 26 consecutive regular season HCAC matches dating back to the 2012-13 season.
