Maisie Elston Joins Women's Basketball Program

RICHMOND, Indiana – Earlham College Head Women's Basketball Coach Shauna Watson announced the hiring of Maisie Elston as the program's assistant coach on Monday.

"Maisie is a great addition to our basketball program," Watson said. "Her experience and success both as a player and coach will be exactly what we need to take our team to the top. I am thrilled to work with her and to get the season going!"

Elston comes to Earlham from Birmingham-Southern College where she spent two seasons as an assistant women's basketball coach. Elston helped lead the Panthers to a 42-15 record in two season and consecutive Southern Athletic Association (SAA) regular season titles as well as an SAA Tournament title during the 2015-16 season. Birmingham-Southern advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament second round before falling to Maryville College.

Elston aided Head Coach Mike Ricks in all aspects of the program including recruiting in several southern states, planning practices, analyzing film and mentoring student-athletes in practices and games, serving as the travel liaison for the program and organizing summer camps.

"I am extremely thankful to be given the opportunity to step in as the assistant women's basketball coach at Earlham College," Elston said. "I had two great years helping to build a winning program at Birmingham-Southern, and I'm very excited to assist Coach Watson in building a championship program here at Earlham."

As a student-athlete, Elston was four-year women's basketball player at NCAA Division I Houston Baptist University. Appearing in all 25 games as a senior, she helped Houston Baptist reach the Southland Conference Tournament title game as the No. 8 seed after knocking off top-seeded Stephen F. Austin State University en route to the finals.

Originally from England, Elston played for the Great Britain U20 National Team in the Division A FIBA European Championship, and she was also a member of the U18 England National Team that competed in the FIBA European Championship in Miskolc, Hungary, in the summer of 2011 and 2012. She attended one of the most prestigious basketball academies in the United Kingdom and was renowned as one of the most prolific perimeter players in her age group. Elston also played club ball for the Sevenoaks Suns in Division I of the English National League.

Elston, a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "Thirty Under 30" honoree, graduated from Houston Baptist in 2015 with a degree in kinesiology. She was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and was also a member of the HBU Dean's List.

Earlham opens its 2017-18 season at Denison University on Nov. 18.
