Women's Basketball Looks for Revenge at Manchester on Saturday



RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's basketball team continues Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a trip to Manchester University on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Teams: Earlham and Manchester. The Quakers are looking to return to winning ways after a 51-34 loss to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday. The Spartans are 5-11 overall and 4-5 in HCAC play after a 45-41 road win at Anderson University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Janel Iden is his her fifth season with the Earlham women's basketball program including her second as head coach. She previously served the program as acting head coach for the 2014-15 season and an assistant coach for the two years prior. Before arriving at Earlham, Iden spent three years as an assistant coach at Mount Union. The Purple Raiders went 80-11 and appeared in three NCAA Division III Tournaments during that time. Josh Dzurick is in his 13th season on the Manchester sideline including his 12th leading the program. 

The Players: Senior Hannah Franklin leads Earlham in scoring at 11.5 points per game while also helping others score, dishing out nearly three assists per contest. Freshman Shannon Pittman is second on the team in scoring at 9.3 points per game while freshman Camryn White and junior Mariah Flynn combine to score over 12 points per game. Samantha Bolen is the lone Spartan to average double figures in scoring at 10.1 points per game. Beth Schaefer, who scores 6.7 points per game, leads Manchester in rebounding at 5.7 boards per contest.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Earlham 55.7, Manchester 54.7; opponents' points per game – Earlham 70.6, Manchester 64.3; field goal percentage – Earlham 36.2, Manchester 34.3; three-point percentage – Earlham 30.4, Manchester 24.6; rebounds per game – Earlham 36.7, Manchester 38.1.

First Time Around: The Spartans edged the Quakers 63-59 at Schuckman Court on Dec. 18, 2016. Senior Shania Feathers led Earlham with 11 points.

Recent History: Earlham is 2-11 against Manchester since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010-11 season. The Quakers' last win over the Spartans was an 81-70 triumph on the road on Jan. 25, 2014.
