Women's Basketball To Battle Bluffton on the Road Wednesday



RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's basketball team looks for its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory of the year on Wednesday when the Quakers travel to Bluffton University for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Earlham and Bluffton. The Quakers are in search of their first win after falling to Anderson University 58-83 in the HCAC opener on Saturday. The Beavers are a perfect 6-0 this season after defeating Transylvania University 67-44 in their conference opener.

The Coaches: Janel Iden is his her fifth season with the Earlham women's basketball program including her second as head coach. She previously served the program as acting head coach for the 2014-15 season and an assistant coach for the two years prior. Before arriving at Earlham, Iden spent three years as an assistant coach at Mount Union. The Purple Raiders went 80-11 and appeared in three NCAA Division III Tournaments during that time. Chad Shutler, who led Bluffton to the NCAA Division III Tournament for first time in school history last season, is in his 12th season as head coach at Bluffton.

The Players: Senior Hannah Franklin leads the Quakers in scoring at 15.0 points per game while freshman Shannon Pittman, who has led Earlham in scoring the past two games, stands at 11.4 points per contest. Senior Maya Luney averages 5.6 rebounds per game. A trio over Beavers, Rachel Beining, Macey Sheerer, and Kaycee Row, all average 14.8 points per game. Sheerer and Beining combine for 14.2 rebounds per contest.

2015-16 Matchups: Earlham looks to avenge the two losses, 82-54 and 79-50 from last season.

Recent History: The Quakers are 2-10 against the Beavers since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010-11 season. Earlham's last win over Bluffton was a 67-38 victory on Dec. 4, 2013.
