WASHINGTON, Pa. – Senior Hannah Franklin scored a career-high 27 points, but Sabrina McLin and Mackenzie O'Donnell combined for 46 points leading the LaRoche College Red Hawks to a 68-58 win over the Earlham College women's basketball team on Friday evening.
The Quakers trailed 15-9 after the first quarter, but battled back to within a single point (27-26) when junior Mariah Flynn hit a three-pointer with 1:36 to play in the first half. McLin gave the Red Hawks a three point lead, but two free throws from Franklin made the score 27-26 at halftime.
LaRoche, which qualified for the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament the past three seasons, outscored Earlham 23-11 in the third quarter to pull away.
The Quakers shot 45.3 percent (24-53) from the floor while holding the Red Hawks to 38.3 percent (18-47). The difference proved to be at the free throw line were the Red Hawks made 28 free throws compared to eight for Earlham.
Earlham has a quick turnaround as it faces host Washington & Jefferson College tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m.
