FRANKLIN, Indiana – Senior Sophia Richard highlighted the Earlham College track and field team's performance on the final day of the 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The championships were scheduled to end last weekend at Anderson University, but weather forced the javelin and the 10,000-meter dash to be completed at Franklin College on Wednesday.
Richard finished second in the javelin with a throw of 109' 2", hurling the javelin over four feet further than the third place finisher, Kara Breuckman of Manchester University. Eve Galbreath of Hanover College took home first place honors with a throw of 114' 10".
Senior Gabriel Penk represented the men's squad with a third place finish in the 10,000-meter run. Penk, who crossed the finish line in 32:37.99, finished 19 seconds behind the winner - Blake Harris of Manchester University.
As a team, the Quaker women finished in sixth place with 42.5 points while the Earlham men placed eighth with 17.5 points.
Earlham continues its season at the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central College on May 11-12.
