Men’s cross country improves finish at NCAA regional meet

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Earlham College men's cross country placed 20th out of 38 teams at Saturday's 2018 NCAA Division III Cross Country Great Lakes Region Championship, held at Blue River Park.

The Quakers, who climbed one spot over their finish in last season's Great Lakes Region meet, tallied 599 points.

Sophomore Noah Scherf (26:44.4) was the top Earlham runner in 91st place overall, with first year Austin Burt (26:55.1) not far off the pace in 102nd place overall.

Sophomore Bineyam Tumbo (27:00.8) crossed in 111th place, while Nate Papachristos (27:30.8) and Cade Orchard (27:32.4) finished 148th and 149th respectively to round out the list of scoring runners for the Quakers.

Ian Shriner (28:06.7) placed 179th overall and Israel Ramos (28:14.7) was 184th, and they were the pushers for the Quakers in the final results.

Calvin College claimed the regional championship with 56 points with all five scoring runners finishing among the top 20. Ohio Northern's Ian McVey (24:52.5) won the individual title.
