SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Earlham men's cross country finished third out of six teams at Saturday's Manchester Univ. Blue River Park Memorial Invitational, leading the three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams in the event.
The Quakers' scoring five tallied 93 points. HCAC rivals Manchester (112 points) and Bluffton (150 points) trailed Earlham in fourth and sixth place respectively.
Trine University won the meet with 22 points, followed by Ohio Northern with 59 points.
Sophomore Noah Scherf was the top Earlham finisher in the 8K race, crossing the finish line in 27:52.8 for sixth place.
Ohio Northern's Ian McVey won the meet with a time of 26:28.1; McVey, who finished 10th overall at the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships, was 48 seconds faster than the nearest competitor, Trine's Jack Beakas (27:16.3). Trine runners took the 2-3-4-5 spots ahead of Earlham's Scherf in the order of finish.
Earlham men's cross country is idle next weekend before returning to action on Friday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Decatur, Ill., to compete in the Millikin University H.W. Wright Classic.
