RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College first year Aitor Zerdilas-Herrera was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year and was one of five All-HCAC selections for the Quakers, when the conference's post-season awards were announced Tuesday.

Zerdilas-Herrera was also tabbed for All-HCAC honors, along with senior Nicola Manni, junior Aleksandr Sergeev, and first year Nikolaos Trikkas-Psomas. Junior Jason Lawson was an Honorable Mention selection.

"I'm extremely proud of the accomplishments of the men this season," said Shawn Hyden, Earlham's head men's and women's tennis coach. "To have the conference freshman of the year and four All-HCAC first team selections is a special season, one to remember for years to come."

Zerdilas-Herrera finished the 2018-19 season with an 18-9 overall singles record, including a 13-6 mark at no. 1 singles. The two-time HCAC Player of the Week charted a 5-1 ledger in HCAC matches. In doubles play, Zerdilas-Herrera finished with a 20-8 mark in doubles play, the second-most doubles victories in a single season in program history.

Zerdilas-Herrera's selection as HCAC Freshman of the Year marks the second consecutive season that an Earlham men's tennis player has earned the award, and the fifth time since the Quakers joined the conference in 2010.

Manni posted a 12-9 overall record in his final collegiate season, with a 5-1 mark in HCAC singles matches. He went 14-8 in doubles matches, including a perfect 7-0 versus HCAC opponents. Manni is a repeat All-HCAC selection, after earning a spot on the squad in 2018.

Sergeev charted a 15-9 overall singles record, with a 5-2 mark in HCAC matches. He had a 14-10 record in doubles play, with a 6-1 ledger in conference matches. Sergeev is a three-time All-HCAC selection after earning all-conference honors in both 2017 and 2018.

Trikkas-Psomas went 12-8 in singles play during his rookie collegiate campaign, with an unblemished 7-0 mark versus HCAC opponents. He recorded a 13-11 mark in doubles matches, including a 6-0 mark in conference matches.

Lawson posted a 15-12 singles record in 2018-19, with a 5-1 HCAC ledger. His 21-5 record in doubles play set a new Earlham single season doubles record, eclipsing the previous mark of 20 set by Jack Ventura-Cruess in the 2012-13 season.

Elijah Sadler was the Earlham men's tennis selection to the Christopher M. Ragsdale Sportsmanship Team. Sadler had a 5-1 singles record in 2018-19, and was 2-0 in doubles play.

Earlham finished its 2018-19 season with a 17-8 overall record, 7-1 in the HCAC. The Quakers reached the championship match of the HCAC Men's Tennis Tournament for the third consecutive season.
