Earlham men’s tennis downs Quincy for second-straight win

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Earlham College men's tennis notched its second consecutive win on its spring break trip to South Carolina with a 6-3 victory over Quincy University on Thursday afternoon.


Earlham snared a 2-1 lead in doubles play, with Aleksandr Sergeev and Sarthak Sharma picking up a win at no. 1 doubles, while Aitor Zerdilas-Herrera and Jason Lawson were victorious at no. 3 doubles.

Moving into singles play, Zerdilas-Herrera completed a sweep of his two matches with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Quincy's Brenden Everhart at no. 1 singles. Sergeev also recorded a two-match sweep with a more challenging 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win at no. 2 singles, while Lawson needed a super-tiebreaker to finish off a win at no. 5 singles. Joaquin Lerner capped the Earlham victories on the day with his triumph at no. 6 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6.


Earlham evened its record at 5-5 overall, while Quincy slipped to 4-5.


The Quakers have a pair of matches on tap for Friday, March 15. Earlham will face Berry College (Ga.) at 8:30 a.m., with a second match against Georgetown College (Ky.) at 1:30 p.m.
