RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College senior Vitalii Stadnyk was a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles matches last week and set a new Earlham career record in the process, and was rewarded with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, when the conference's weekly awards were announced Monday.
Stadnyk posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at no. 1 singles in a 9-0 win over Defiance on Wednesday, and followed up with a 7-6, 6-3 victory at no. 1 singles in a 9-0 win over Franklin College on Saturday. The two victories gave Stadnyk 72 career singles victories in Maroon and White, setting a new Earlham record.
With partner Vojislav Tatarevic, he also posted an 8-1 win at no. 1 doubles in the win over Defiance, and an 8-4 triumph at no. 1 doubles in the win over Franklin. For the season, Stadnyk is 21-5 overall in singles and 12-4 in doubles. He has a 17-3 singles mark in dual matches – all at no. 1 singles – with a 4-0 ledger in HCAC matches.
Earlham men's tennis has three matches this week to close out the 2017-18 regular season, all at home. The Quakers will host Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Transylvania on Thursday, and Rose-Hulman on Saturday.
