RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's soccer team travels to Hanover College for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Hanover. The Quakers are looking to end a four-game losing streak after falling at Anderson University 2-0 on Saturday. The Panthers are 11-3-0 and 4-1-0 in HCAC play after beating Bluffton University 4-0.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his second season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. Matt Wilkerson is entering his fourth year as Hanover's head coach for men's soccer.
The Players: Senior Bret Marshall and freshman Micah Roland are the two Quakers who have scored multiple goals this season. Roland put Earlham up 1-0 at Defiance with his third goal of the year on Wednesday. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicola Manni has a 4-2 record as Earlham's goalkeeper. Matthew Eldridge and Enrico Franchini lead the Hanover Panther's offence with 17 combined goals.
Defending HCAC Champions: Hanover shared last year's regular season HCAC title with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology as each team finished with a 7-0-2 conference mark. The Fightin' Engineers won the HCAC Tournament via a shootout win over the Panthers.
Recent History: Earlham is 3-3-1 against Hanover since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Quakers did not win last year's matchup, a 2-0 loss at Hanover on Oct. 6.
