RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's soccer team hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest at Matlack Field on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Rose-Hulman. The Quakers are 5-4 on the season after opening HCAC play with a 3-2 win at Bluffton University. The Fightin' Engineers began their season with four straight wins, but ended non-conference play with five consecutive defeats. Rose-Hulman won its HCAC opener 3-0 over Transylvania University.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his second season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. Sean Helliwell has led Rose-Hulman to five NCAA Division III Tournaments in eight years as head men's soccer coach.
The Players: Senior Bret Marshall and freshman Micah Roland are the two Quakers who have scored multiple goals this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicola Manni has a 4-1 record as Earlham's goalkeeper. Alex Jansen leads Rose-Hulman in goals with three and points with six. A trio of Engineers have scored two goals this season.
Recent History: Earlham and Rose-Hulman have split the last two seasons with the road team winning each contest. The Engineers won a 4-0 contest last season while the Quakers won 2-1 in overtime in 2014.
