Marshall's Goal Lifts Men's Soccer Over Trine

RICHMOND, Ind. – Senior Bret Marshall broke over an 80-minute scoreless deadlock to lift the Earlham College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over in-state rival Trine University at Matlack Field on Saturday.

Marshall broke through the Thunder defense in the 85th minute and slid a shot past Trine goalkeeper William Macedo to lift the Quakers to victory.

Earlham peppered Macedo with 11 shots in the first half compared to just two for Trine. The Thunder had the better offensive play in the second half as Trine outshot the Quakers 9-5 in the final 45 minutes.

Individually, Nicholas Dey fired six shots while Marshall fired three shots, all of which were on net. As a team, four of Earlham's shots were on net compared to two for Trine.

Senior Taylen Alexander and sophomore Peter Kashatus, both first-year members of the men's soccer program, split the goalkeeping duties. Kashatus picked up the win and made two saves.

Both teams earned three corner kicks in the contest.

Earlham finishes the weekend 1-1 and will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7, against Wabash College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Matlack Field.
