Men's lacrosse falls to Fontbonne, 25-8, in program opener

RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College men's lacrosse made its debut on Saturday with five goals from Nori Kasai on its way to a 25-8 loss to Fontbonne University (Mo.) at Darrell Beane Stadium.

Kasal also tallied an assist to finish with six points.

Daniel O'Donnell charted two goals and an assist, while Tony Boutwell logged a single goal for the Quakers.

John Okker-Edging recorded eight saves over his 60 minutes in the Earlham goal.

Fontbonne (1-2) struck first, scoring on its first trip up the field off the opening face-off, before Earlham (1-0) got on the board with an unassisted goal by O'Donnell. Additional goals from Boutwell and O'Donnell briefly put the Quakers in front, 3-1, and the two teams traded goals to advance the score to 4-2 in Earlham's favor.

The Griffins rattled off the next six goals to take an 8-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Kasai scored early in the second quarter, but Fontbonne answered with a nine-goal run to effectively put the game out of reach with a 17-6 advantage at the halftime break.

Fontbonne's Alex Scott tallied six goals and three assists, while Matt Rech recorded five goals and one assist. Michael Picciolo and Brian Nguyen also logged hattricks with three goals apiece.

The Griffins outshot the Quakers, 46-23, and had a 42-37 advantage in ground balls.

Earlham men's lacrosse hosts Wilmington College (Ohio) on Tuesday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. at Darrell Beane Stadium.
