RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College field hockey was unable to respond to an early goal from visiting Ohio Wesleyan and dropped a 2-0 decision to the Battling Bishops, in a North Coast Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Darrell Beane Stadium.

OWU's Ashley Barno scored the game winner with 1:33 left in the opening quarter, when she beat Earlham goalie Meg Murphy with a shot to the lower left corner of the Quakers' cage from three yards out. Madison Bruno was credited with an assist on the score.

Murphy kept the Quakers within one of the Battling Bishops the rest of the way, making several tremendous saves with her aggressive play away from the goal. Ohio Wesleyan netted its second goal with 1.2 seconds remaining on the clock, when a shot from Floor Jansen was deflected by an Earlham defender into the cage.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Earlham, 16-5, with Murphy finishing the day with seven saves. OWU goalie Marie Overing was credited with four stops.

The Quakers slipped to 9-8 overall, 3-3 in the NCAC, and are currently in fifth place in the conference standings. Ohio Wesleyan improved to 12-3 overall, 6-1 in conference play.

Earlham field hockey is on the road for its final two games of the 2019 season, beginning with a game at DePauw on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m.
