RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College sophomore goalie Meg Murphy (Chico, Calif./Chico Senior) was named the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Field Hockey Player of the Week, after leading the Quakers to a pair of shutout victories last week.
Murphy played all 64+ minutes in goal in Earlham's 1-0 overtime win over Wilson College (Pa.) on Saturday at the Quakers' Darrell Beane Stadium, recording one save in her second career solo shutout.
She repeated the accomplishment on Sunday, this time in a regulation 60 minutes, with four saves as Earlham posted a home victory over Sewanee (The University of the South).
Murphy is the first Earlham field hockey player to win NCAC Player of the Week honors since Maite Turlings received the accolade on Sept. 18, 2017.
Murphy is currently fourth among NCAC goalies with a 1.43 goals against average.
The two victories helped propel Earlham field hockey to a 3-1 overall record, the program's best start since 1987 when the Quakers also opened the campaign with a 3-1 mark. The Quakers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they host Rhodes College at Darrell Beane Stadium. Game time is slated for 12:00 p.m.
