RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College field hockey team begins the final week of the regular season with a road 5 p.m. contest at Denison University on Wednesday.
The Teams: Earlham and Denison. The Quakers are 6-8 overall and 5-7 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play and riding a 3-game winning streak after defeating the College of Wooster and Oberlin College last weekend. The Big Red are 13-3 overall after beginning the season 2-3. Denison trails Kenyon College by one game in the NCAC standings.
The Coaches: Emily Girasole is in her first season as head field hockey coach at Earlham. Girasole spent one season as an assistant field hockey coach at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), and before that, she was an assistant field hockey coach at Central Michigan University for three seasons. P.J. Soteriades is in her 15th season as head coach at Denison and has led the Big Red to the NCAC Tournament in 11 of those seasons.
The Players: Senior Megan Hut and junior Maite Turlings have both scored eight goals for the Quakers this season. Hut leads the squad with six assists while Turlings and sophomore Sydney Barnes have each dished out three assists. Freshman Sofia Salvatore and junior Isabella Grasso have scored four and three goals respectively. Charlotte Happel has found the back of the net a dozen times to lead the Big Red's offensive attack.
Recent History: Earlham has not beaten Denison since the 2010 season.
First Time Around: Denison edged Earlham 1-0 in a game played at Darrell Beane Stadium on Sept. 27.
