Field Hockey Travels to Sewanee for Games This Weekend



RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College field hockey team travels to the University of the South (Sewanee) for a pair of games against the host Tigers at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Hendrix College at noon on Sunday.              

The Teams: Earlham, Sewanee, and Hendrix. The Quakers enter the weekend with a 2-1 record after dropping the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opener 6-0 to Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Tigers are 1-1 after falling to at Wittenberg University 4-2 last weekend. The Warriors are 0-2 as they dropped a 7-3 contest to Denison University last Sunday.

The Coaches: Heather Moore enters her fourth year as Earlham's head coach. She led the Quakers to their best finish since 2009 in 2015 as well as a come-from-behind, overtime win over the College of Wooster for the first time since 1993. Laura McIntrye enters her first season leading Sewanee while Rebecca Begley is in her fourth season at Hendrix.

The Players: Senior Megan Hut leads Earlham with two goals while sophomore Maite Turlings has netted one goal. Sophomore Natalie Blatz leads the squad with three defensive saves. Virginia Barry leads the Tigers with three goals while Raychl Reger has three goals for the Warriors.

NCAC Player of the Week: van der Vaart posted two shutout victories in her first two collegiate starts as the Earlham started its season 2-0. She made six saves in Earlham's 1-0 season-opening victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday and added another six saves in the Quakers' 2-0 triumph over Transylvania University on Sunday.

NCAC Opponents: Sewanee and Hendrix are a combined 1-3 against four different NCAC opponents. The Tigers lost to Wittenberg and edged Wooster while the Warriors have lost to Denison and DePauw University.
