Baseball Releases 2017 Schedule

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball program has released its 2017 schedule.

The Quakers will open their season with a three-game series at the University of the South (Sewanee) on March 4-5. Earlham was scheduled to begin the 2016 season at Sewanee, but weather moved the series to Richmond.

After the series with the Tigers, the Quakers will being an eight-game home stand beginning with Olivet College on March 8. After a doubleheader with Oberlin College on March 12, Earlham will face Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foes in Heidelberg University on March 15 followed by a three-game series with Wilmington College on March 18-19.

Two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) schools in Wittenberg University and Wabash College round out the non-conference schedule.

"Our non-conference will not only help us gain confidence and momentum going into the conference season, but will also help us gel as a team," head coach Steve Sakosits said. "Playing teams from the OAC, NCAC, Southern Athletic Association (SAA), and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) will be great tests for our program."

Earlham begins the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) portion of its schedule against defending conference champions Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on the road on March 24-25. After two weekday home games against Bluffton University and a weekend series with Franklin College, the Quakers will play 12 consecutive road games from April 7-22.

The Quakers will finish the regular season with weekend series against Transylvania University on April 28-29 and Hanover College on May 5-6 with a single game against Mount St. Joseph University sandwiched in between the two series.

"The HCAC is a tough conference that day in and day out any team can win," said Sakosits. "Every game is meaningful and important to get into the conference tournament."

Earlham has qualified for the HCAC Tournament for the previous two seasons including advancing to the tournament championship last season, a season in which the Quakers established a program record with 29 wins.
