Personal Bests Established for Cross Country at Wilmington


WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Earlham College cross country team placed 24th in both the men's and women's meet in the Jenna Strong Fall Classic hosted by Wilmington College on Friday afternoon.

On the men's side, the Quakers finished sixth of the NCAA Division III schools that were present. Earlham tallied 671 points as a team while Heidelberg University, the top Division III finisher, had 304 points.

Individually eight Quakers ran personal bests at the eight-kilometer course. Senior Gabriel Penk placed 41st overall with a time of 26:13.4 while sophomore Daniel Kibet ran the race in 27:32.7. Freshman Oliver Daniel was the third Quaker to cross the finish line, doing so 27:46.5.

On the women's side, Earlham finished seventh of the NCAA Division III schools with 655 points. Heidelberg was the top Division III school to finish with 242 points.

Individually, sophomore Rachel Wilkins placed 59th running the five-kilometer course in 19:46.8. Senior Kellan Steele, junior Mia Kaplan, and sophomores Lauren Cole and Victoria Trezona all finished in under 22 minutes.

The Quakers will have a week off before traveling to Hanover College for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships on Oct. 29.
