RICHMOND, Ind.-Earlham outlasted their competition and remained undefeated after the final day of the Quaker Classic. The Quakers won in three sets against both the Crowley's Ridge Pioneers and the Boyce College Bulldogs.
Earlham vs. Crowley Ridge
Quakers won three straight sets in their victory over Crowley Ridge's College. Once again their defensive efforts lead to a easy team victory. The Quakers only allowed the Pioneers 14 kills on 78 attempts. Earlham's Megan Hediger lead the team in digs with 16, while Caroline Mulvhill guarded the net tallying two solo blocks and one block assist.
Through the three sets, Earlham outscored the Pioneers 56 to 16. The Quakers won each set 25-11, 25-12, and 25-20
Earlham vs. Boyce
After a three hour rest period, Earlham opened their match with Boyce dominating each set. The Quakers won their first set 25-2, going on a 23 point run to end the match. Sydney Ameluxen's, serving power single-handedly accounted for eight points in the first set after the Bulldogs could not return her serves.
Defensively, the Quakers showed just as much power, only allowing the Bulldogs 11 kills on 73 attempts. Claire Cornwell lead the team in digs (11), followed by Megan Hedinger (8). Mistakes by the Quakers were costly and accounted for 14 points that put them in crucial positions early on in later sets.
Earlham finished the game winning both the second and third set 25-15
Women's volleyball will resume action at home against Trine on September 12. The match will begin at 7:00pm.
