RICHMOND,Ind-Earlham Volleyball visited the Capital University Crusaders and improved to a 4-1 record with a convincing three set win.
The Quakers began the match attacking the net with force amassing 21 of their total 45 kills in the first set. They won the set with ease, with a score of 25-15. The second set was all about the defense, who only allowed the Crusader offense to score nine points. They held Capital to a .000 percent hitting average, allowing six kills on 23 attempts. Offensive errors caused Earlham to be down early in the third set, but the offense rallied back to win the set 25-19.
Ashleigh Burton was a force to be reckoned with, earning 13 kills on 14 attempts for an outstanding kill percentage of .929. Lauren Jackson lead the team in both assists and digs, recording 38 and 12 respectively.
The Quakers defense gave up no service aces and only allowed the Crusaders 29 kills on 85 attempts.
Earlham volleyball's next competition will be the Quaker Classic tournament held on September 7-8 in Druley Performance Gym. They will play two matches on Friday against Wilmington (4pm) and IU Southeast (8pm), followed by two matches on Saturday against Crowley Ridge College (10am) and Boyce College (2pm).
