RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College volleyball team steps out of NCAA Division III play when it travels to Cincinnati Clermont College for a 7 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
The Teams: Earlham and Cincinnati Clermont. The Quakers are 5-3 this season after finishing the Quaker Classic with a 1-2 record. The Cougars are 7-4 this year after three victories on Saturday.
The Coaches: Lauren Horton enters her fourth year at Earlham and third season leading the volleyball program. The IU-East alumna was a four-year starting setter for the Red Wolves and a three-time All-American. She holds the distinction of being the NAIA's all-time assists leader for the rally-scoring era. The Cougars are coached by Josh Hamer.
The Players: The Quakers have relied on a three-headed offensive attack through the first four matches of the 2017 season. Junior Ashleigh Burton and freshmen Carly Federinko and Julia Stewart all have over 80 kills nearly 3.00 kills per set. Sophomore setter Lauren Jackson dishes out 9.38 assist per set while junior libero Megan Hedinger digs up over five attack attempts per set.
Recent History: Earlham has not faced Cincinnati Clermont since joining the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) prior to the 2010 season.
Ruling Richmond: For the first time, Earlham has the best collegiate volleyball team in Richmond. The Quakers defeated IU East in five sets at the Quaker Classic last weekend.
