JACKSONVILLE, Illinois - The Earlham College volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-1 victories over MacMurray College and Blackburn College on Saturday to conclude the Illinois College Tournament with a 3-1 record.
In the victory over MacMurray, Earlham hit a .320 clip in the first set while holding the Hilanders to -.036. MacMurray rebounded to win set two 25-21, but the Quakers took set three by the same score.
Leading 2-1, the Quakers' offense returned to form hitting a .286 clip in the fourth set and cruising to a 25-18 victory.
Freshman Carly Federinko led the Quakers offensively with 15 kills compared to three errors on 36 swings for a .333 attack percentage. Junior Ashleigh Burton and freshman Julia Stewart also recorded over 10 kills.
In the triumph over Blackburn, Earlham once again won set one convincingly, but lost set two. The Quakers held the Beavers to less than 16 points in both of the final two sets to close out the match in four.
Federinko and Burton combined for 14 kills while Hedinger had 26 digs and sophomore Sydney Ameluxen dug up 15 Beaver attack attempts. Jackson had 32 assists in the match, bringing her career total to over 1,000 just four matches into her sophomore season.
Earlham improves to 3-1 with the victories over the Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponents. The Quakers will face Central State University (Ohio) on Wednesday before hosting the 2017 Quaker Classic at Schuckman Court.
