RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team continues Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action when the Quakers travel to Anderson University for a 7 p.m. contest with the Ravens on Friday.
The Teams: Earlham and Anderson. The Quakers are looking to rebound after a 3-0 loss to Hanover College in HCAC play on Wednesday. The Ravens are also looking to get back in the win column after a 3-1 loss to Bluffton University on Wednesday.
The Coaches: Lauren Crump enters her third year at Earlham along with her second year as head coach. The IU-East alumnae was a four-year starting setter for the Red Wolves and a three-time All-American. She holds the distinction of being the NAIA's all-time assists leader for the rally-scoring era. Tami Miller is in her 14th season lead her alma mater.
The Offense: Sophomores Ashleigh Burton and Skylar Muckway continue to be Earlham's go-to threats on offense. Both average over 2.5 kills per set and have combined for over 57 percent of the Quakers' offense. Burton led all attackers with 22 kills in the Quakers' 3-2 loss to MSJ on Saturday. Freshman setter Lauren Jackson engineers the Earlham offense to the tune of 8.56 assists per set while sophomore libero Megan Hedinger leads the back row averaging five digs per set and also turned in career-high 36 digs against MSJ. Courtney Copp, Emily Hale, and Hannah O'Brien each average over two kills per set. Libero Megan Wade has accumulated 348 digs this season.
Tops in the Conference: Burton leads the HCAC in kills with 299 and is second in kills per set at 3.56. Hedinger has in the top five in both total digs and digs per set.
In Search of a Conference Win: Earlham has not won an HCAC contest since joining the conference prior to the 2010 season. The Quakers have gotten to a fifth set on three occasions – 2010 at Manchester University, 2011 at Franklin, 2014 at Franklin, and 2016 vs. Mount St. Joseph.
