RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's tennis team faces two MIAA foes this weekend as the Quakers will face Trine University at 10 a.m. and Adrian College at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Teams: Earlham, Adrian, and Trine. The Quakers stand at 0-4 on the season after falling 6-3 at Berea College on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have not played a match this year, but finished the 2015-16 campaign 9-12. The Thunder open their season vs. Grace College (Ind.) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and will face Wittenberg University on Saturday.
The Coaches: Earlham is under the direction of first-year head coach Shawn Hyden. A graduate of the University of Mount Union, Hyden comes to Earlham from Arcadia University (Pa.) where he spent the last three years as head men's and women's tennis coach. At Arcadia, Hyden led the men's team to a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament Championship match. Rick Halverson enters his first season leading Adrian's tennis program while Erin Kolar is also in her first year at Trine.
The Players: Sophomore Robyn Thomas is the lone Quaker to have won a flight this year. Thomas won her fifth singles match over Berea in straight sets. Sophomore Megan Howell and Thomas teamed up for a default victory at third doubles over Berea. Howell also won sixth singles by default. Amber Laginess led the Bulldogs with a 16-4 singles record a season ago. Madison Hatkevich finished 6-11 playing primarily second singles for Trine.
