RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's tennis team opens its 2016 season with a home match against in-state foe Taylor University on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Taylor. The Quakers are looking for a win to open the year after finishing the 2015 season at 0-11. The Trojans are 1-0 on the season after a 9-0 sweep of Lawrence Tech. Taylor faces Bethel College Aug. 30 before traveling to Earlham on Sept. 1.
The Coaches: Earlham is under the direction of first-year head coach Shawn Hyden. A graduate of the University of Mount Union, Hyden comes to Earlham from Arcadia University (Pa.) where he spent the last three years as head men's and women's tennis coach. At Arcadia, Hyden led the men's team to a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament Championship match. Jini Morgan is in her fourth season as head women's tennis coach at Taylor. The Trojans finished 11-6 last season.
The Players: Juniors Lexi Aligarbes and Arrita Domi lead Earlham's returners. Aligarbes played first, second, and third singles and second doubles last season. Domi played mainly second singles and first doubles. Taelor Grose and Mikayla Schultz lead Taylor's returners. Grose played second singles a season ago while Schultz finished the year with a 16-5 singles record playing primarily at fourth singles.
