RICHMOND, Indiana – Gilberto Pineda Jr. has joined the Earlham College women's soccer program as an assistant coach, Head Coach Chad Hardin announced on Tuesday.
"I am excited to be working with Gilberto [Pineda Jr.] again as we have very similar coaching philosophies," Hardin said. "We have a vision of getting this program back to winning championships again and his experience and expertise will help elevate our program back to that level."
Pineda Jr. comes to Earlham from McCordsville where he has been the technical director for Sporting Indiana Football Club since November of 2015. During that time, Pineda Jr. spent two seasons as head coach of the '99 Boys team and guided the squad to appearances in the 2015 and 2016 Indiana Soccer League Premier Division and runner-up honors at the 2016 Region II Presidents Cup Regional.
"I am very excited rejoin Coach [Hardin] at Earlham and to contribute to its academic reputation by building a strong women's soccer program," Pineda Jr. said. "The new facilities and the support system are outstanding."
Prior to coach the Sporting Indiana Football Club's '99 Boys team, Pineda Jr. spent two seasons with Hardin as an assistant men's soccer coach at Marian University. He assisted Hardin with roster decisions, planned training sessions and managed in-season and off-season training schedules.
Pineda Jr. has over 11 seasons coaching women at the club level (Sporting Indiana FC and Greenfield Strikers FC) as a head coach. In addition to club experience, he also spent three seasons as an assistant women's soccer coach at North Central High School from 2009-12.
A graduate of Indiana University, Pineda Jr. holds a "D" Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation. He also earned National and Director of Coaching diplomas from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Earlham opens its 2017 season at Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, Sept. 1.
