RICHMOND, Ind. – Director of athletics Mike Bergum announced the hiring of Molly Macdonald to lead the women’s lacrosse program that begins varsity competition in the 2017-18 season.
“The addition of lacrosse on campus is exciting,” said Bergum. “Molly brings experience and enthusiasm to the program both as a coach and a former player. She has many great ideas to introduce and launch women’s lacrosse on campus.”
Macdonald comes to Earlham from Millsaps College (Miss.) where she led the Majors' women’s lacrosse program for two seasons. She oversaw and directed practices, game strategy, scouting, recruiting, and fundraising. Eight student-athletes earned Southern Athletic Association (SAA) honors under Macdonald’s guidance including one first-team selection. Millsaps finished 9-5 in 2015.
Prior to Millsaps, Macdonald spent the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach at Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.) where she aided the head coach in planning practices and game strategies. Macdonald was in charge of contacting and maintaining recruiting classes while also overseeing student-athletes’ academic progress.
Macdonald was a four-year women’s lacrosse player at Mount Holyoke College while playing two seasons of women’s basketball. She garnered All-NEWMAC First Team honors as a senior and was twice named NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week. Macdonald’s 115 goals and 130 career points rank her fourth and fifth respectively in Mount Holyoke women’s lacrosse history. She graduated with a degree in architectural studies.
Macdonald will have the 2016-17 year to recruit before competition in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) begins in 2017-18.
