RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College women's basketball team opens its 2017-18 season against a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) institutions as the Quakers will face Denison University on Saturday followed by Kenyon College on Sunday.
The Schedule: Earlham will face the Big Red at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the Ladies at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Teams: Earlham, Denison and Kenyon. The Quakers finished last season with a 3-22 overall record and a 3-15 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) competition. The Big Red finished the 2016-17 season with an even 14-14 record after a berth in the NCAC Tournament Championship game while the Ladies ended last year with a 19-8 record.
The Coaches: Shauna Watson is in her first season leading the Quakers' women's basketball program. A graduate of Hanover College, Watson spent the last two years as an assistant coach at Indiana Institute of Technology and led the Warriors to an NAIA Tournament berth in 2017. Sara Lee has been the head coach at Denison for 28 seasons while Suzanne Helfant has accumulated 355 victories in 22 years at Kenyon.
The Players: Mariah Flynn returns for her senior season having averaged 7.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last season. Shannon Pittman and Camryn White combined to average 13.9 points and 5.7 boards per game last year. Alison Schafer is the top returning scorer for Denison at 8.4 points per contest last season while Jessica Gerber scored 7.3 points per game for Kenyon in 2016-17.
