RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's basketball team opens Heartland Colligate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play hosting Anderson University on Saturday Dec. 3. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
The Teams: Earlham and Anderson. The Quakers are 0-4 this season after falling to Wilmington College on Tuesday. The Ravens are 2-3 this season after a loss to Trine University Saturday, but open HCAC play against Mount St. Joseph University on Wednesday.
The Coaches: Janel Iden is his her fifth season with the Earlham women's basketball program including her second as head coach. She previously served the program as acting head coach for the 2014-15 season and an assistant coach for the two years prior. Before arriving at Earlham, Iden spent three years as an assistant coach at Mount Union. The Purple Raiders went 80-11 and appeared in three NCAA Division III Tournaments during that time. Lindsay Shade is entering her second year as the Ravens head women's basketball coach.
The Players: Hannah Franklin leads the Quakers in scoring at 18.0 points per game. The Lynn, Ind., native scored a career-high 27 points in Earlham's narrow loss to LaRoche. Freshman Shannon Pittman, who scored a career-high 24 points against Wilmington on Tuesday, is averaging 11.0 points per game and 2.8 rebounds. Sophomore Ashlea Meadows leads the squad in rebounding at 4.8 boards per game. Kaycee Strunk and D'Anjrea Allen are each averaging 10 points per game for the Ravens.
Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Earlham 55.8, Anderson 62.4; opponents' points per game – Earlham 74.3, Anderson 65.0; field goal percentage – Earlham 37.7, Anderson 37.3; three-point percentage – Earlham 27.3, Anderson 24.7; rebounds per game – Earlham 35.3, Anderson 44.8.
2015-16 Matchups: Anderson beat Earlham twice last season, winning 80-71 in Anderson and 79-76 in double overtime in Richmond.
Recent History: Earlham is 5-7 against Anderson since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010-11 season. The Quakers had a four-game winning streak over the Ravens snapped in 2015.
