RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College track and field team heads to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Anderson University this weekend.
The Championships: Events begin at 3 p.m. on Friday followed by 11 a.m. on Saturday. Anderson's Macholtz Field will serve as the host for the championships.
The Coaches: Earlham is led by a pair of first-year, co-head coaches. Claire Hewitt comes to Earlham from the University of Pennsylvania where she served as an assistant women's cross country coach while her husband Rob had been a high school cross country and track & field coach at national powerhouse Germantown Friends High School (Pa.) since 2004.
Women to Watch: Senior Sophia Richard is seeded first in the javelin and will also compete in the discus. Sophomore Rachel Wilkins, an All-HCAC performer during the indoor season, has the second-best time in the conference in the 800-meter run and fifth-best in the 1,500-meter run. Senior Hannah Franklin is slotted for a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles while junior Annalee Wilson is seeded No. 6 in the pole vault. Additionally, the Quakers' 4-x-100-meter and 4-x-400-meter relays are predicted to finish in the top six.
Men's To Watch: Junior Marcaus Cooper, who placed second in the conference in the triple jump as a sophomore in 2016, is seeded second in the event this weekend. Senior Gabriel Penk, an All-HCAC performer in cross country, is scheduled to place fourth in the 5,000-meter run.
