FRANKLIN, Indiana – The Earlham College track and field team recorded 11 top three finishes at the Franklin Invitational on Saturday.
On the women's side, sophomore Rachel Wilkins won both the 800-meter run and 3,000-meter run. Wilkins set a personal best and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's (HCAC) top time in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.88. She also beat the field by over three seconds in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:52.55. Fellow sophomore Victoria Trezona joined Wilkins on the podium with a third place finish.
Senior Hannah Franklin won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.72. She finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.02), losing to Kelsey Bowling of Franklin by less than one tenth of a second.
The Quakers also took second place in both the 4-x-100 and 4-x-400-meter relays.
The Earlham women also had three top three finishers in field events. Senior Sophia Richard beat the entire field by nearly 20 feet in the javelin with a hurl of 116' 5". Junior Annalee Wilson added a second place finish in the pole vault with a personal outdoor best of 10" 2 ¾". Freshman Angelica Carpio placed third in the high jump clearing 4' 5".
On the men's side, senior Gabriel Penk placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a personal best time of 4:11.22, finishing less than two seconds behind Clayton Brumfield of Franklin College. The Portland, Oregon, native also finished fourth in the 800-meter run.
Senior Akul Sharma also earned the Quakers team points with a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.19. Freshman JP Dongo also earned a fourth place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 8' ½".
The Quakers take the track again next weekend at the Indiana Division III Championships hosted by DePauw University on April 15.
