RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College track and field team travels to Terre Haute for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Indoor Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday.
The Meet: Both field and running events are scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m.
The Teams: All 10 members of the HCAC will compete – Anderson University, Bluffton University, Defiance College, Earlham, Franklin College, Hanover College, Manchester University, Mount St. Joseph University, Rose-Hulman, and Transylvania University.
The Coaches: Earlham is led by a pair of first-year, co-head coaches. Claire Hewitt comes to Earlham from the University of Pennsylvania where she served as an assistant women's cross country coach while her husband Rob had been a high school cross country and track & field coach at national powerhouse Germantown Friends High School (Pa.) since 2004.
Women to Watch: Sophomore Rachel Wilkins, an All-HCAC selection in cross country this past fall, will run in the 800-Meter Dash, will compete in the 800-Meter Dash, the Mile Run, and as a member of the Quakers' 4-x-400-Meter Relay squad. Junior Annalee Wilson is seeded eighth in the Pole Vault, and will also run in the 200-Meter Dash.
Men's To Watch: Junior Marcaus Cooper, who placed second in the Triple Jump at the 2016 HCAC Indoor Championships, looks to improve one spot in the event from last season. Senior Gabriel Penk, an All-HCAC honoree in cross country, is scheduled to run in the 5,000-Meter Run and as a member of the Quakers' 4-x-400-Meter Relay Team. Senior Akul Sharma, who continues to set personal bests in sprints, will run with Penk as well as in the 4-x-200-Meter Dash and the 60-Meter Dash.
