RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's tennis team puts its undefeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) record on the line when the Quakers host Defiance College for a 4 p.m. match on Wednesday.
The Teams: Earlham and Defiance. The Quakers are 13-5 overall and 4-0 in the HCAC and on an eight-match winning streak. The Yellow Jackets are 9-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play after a sweep of Transylvania University on Saturday.
The Coaches: Shawn Hyden is in his first season as head men's tennis coach at Earlham. The Mount Union College alumnus spent the last two seasons as head men's and women's tennis coach at Arcardia University when he led the Knights to the Mid Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament championship match. Gonzalo Vivas is in his first season leading the Defiance men's tennis program.
The Players: Junior Vitalii Stadnyk leads the Quakers with 13 wins at first singles while freshman Fernando Bulnes Aramburu has a 12-5 record playing second and third singles. Stadnyk and fellow junior Vojislav Tatarevic are the Quakers' best-performing doubles team with nine wins. James DeMeo is 14-2 at first singles for the Yellow Jackets.
Dual Match Team Statistics: Earlham is 76-36 (.679) as a team in singles competition compared to 37-17 (.685) in doubles play. Defiance, in comparison, is 58-38 (.604) in singles and 29-19 (.604) in doubles
Recent History: Earlham has not lost to Defiance since joining the HCAC prior to the 2011 season.
