DELAWARE, Ohio – The Earlham College men's tennis team opened its spring season with a 6-3 loss to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday.
The Quakers won one of the three doubles flights as junior Vojislav Tatarevic and freshman Fernando Bulnes Araburu defeated Felipe Duarte and Aadil Kohari 8-5 at second doubles. Junior Vitalii Stadnyk and freshman Joaquin Lerner fell to Shouta Fukamachi and Diego Venegas 8-5 at first doubles. The Battling Bishops also won third doubles 8-2.
Trailing 2-1 after doubles, Stadnyk won his 34th career singles match with a 7-5, 7-5 triumph over Fukamachi at first singles. Lerner claimed the other Earlham victory, winning sixth singles 6-4, 6-4.
Ohio Wesleyan won second-fifth singles in straight sets. Bulnes Aramburu and freshman Aleksandr Sergeev both fell 6-4, 6-2 at third and fourth singles respectively.
Earlham stands at 2-1 on the season and returns to action and returns to action for a tri-match at Case Western Reserve University on March 4.
